I don’t believe there is anyone who likes to admit, or will admit that they probably have rats (mice) in their house, attic, garage, barn or out building. I have read that these little creatures live everywhere, and most of us have them in our homes. I was recently plagued with a rat problem in my Real Estate office. They were driving us crazy, every morning we would see the signs of rats. There is a one bedroom apartment upstairs and my tenant was obviously also having a problem. We couldn’t figure it out, where were they coming from, and why? We would set traps and every day we would catch anywhere from one to three, sometimes up to four, this was no joking matter any longer. We used all the different types of rat poisons on the market, and they work. The problem with the rat baits is that once they eat it they become very sick and die, usually they will end up in the wall somewhere to die. You guessed it, now you have the smell to put up with for the next few weeks. This was turning into an awful situation and I was getting desperate to say the least. We did discover where they were coming from. The county owns a very large building next door to my office; it is vacant and obviously must be infested with rats. We called the county and complained, I don’t know if anything was ever done, but we knew we had a problem and had to address it. I didn’t want to set any more rat bait out as I was already having an odor problem with one that had died and we couldn’t find. I was telling a friend of mine about my problem when another friend overheard me. He came to me and told me about his rat problem in his pole barn. He said they were so bad that he couldn’t leave feed for his animals as they would eat into the bags. He told me he purchased two electronic devices from Home Depot and has not had a problem since, about two years now. Now you can imagine how excited I was to hear this news. He couldn’t remember the name of the device but he did describe it to me. I left the office right then on a trip to Home Depot. I did find the units he described, I purchased two of them. I brought them back to the office, plugged one in the upstairs rental and one in the downstairs office. The next morning all traps were empty, no fresh signs of any rats. I bought two more, now we have two upstairs and two downstairs; we have not seen another rat, mouse, mice or Mickey since nad that is oh…4-5 weeks now. And guess what? In addition to eliminating rats, we have not seen another roach. We have not had the placed sprayed and I don’t believe we will need the use of any more chemicals in the future. For your information, the units I am talking about is called “Pest A Cator”. They can be purchased from Home Depot. All you need to do is plug them in and watch the little red light on top of the unit start to blink; this is your indicator it is working. It is designed to work a high pitched sound through electrical wiring and the rodents can’t stand it and leave, apparently roaches too. If you have a problem give it a try in your home or office; I think you will be as pleasantly amazed as we are.
